Mailroom Policies
Packages are held in the locker for 24 hours, after which they will be pulled from the locker and held behind the mailroom window. Students will then need to pick them up during normal business hours at the counter. Students will receive an email from Pcmail@providence.edu informing them of the location change. Any items left for 15 days will be returned to the sender. If you are sick or away from campus for an extended period, send an email to pcmail@providence.edu to request that your packages be held if you will be returning to retrieve them.
- All Providence College full-time students are assigned a Friar Stop Number (FS#) to use when receiving mail/packages on campus. Please include this on all packages!
- Undergraduate students retain the same Friar Stop Number throughout their stay at the College
- Students have 24/7 access to the lockers using their PC Cards to swipe in after hours.
- Packages should be limited to 40 lbs. or less, mail services reserve the right to refuse overweight packages.
- Please do not ship furniture
- Letter mail and packages (that don’t fit in the lockers) can be picked up at the window in Mail Services during regular business hours.
Perishable packages delivered via USPS, UPS and FedEx such as cupcakes, Hello Fresh, Fruit Boxes and other such deliveries will only be held if space allows in our refrigerator for a maximum of 5 days, after that these items will be disposed of. There are times when we do not have any space available for these types of items, in which case your item will be placed in a locker and marked as perishable so that you retrieve them as quickly as possible.
Forwarding Mail
All first class and priority mail, USPS packages and subscription magazines can be forwarded. Newspapers, catalogs, media mail, bulk mail and presorted standard mail cannot be forwarded. Amazon, UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc. cannot be forwarded.
The mailroom will hold mail for returning international students. For international students who are not returning to Providence College, all mail will be returned to the sender. It is up to the international student to notify banks, magazines, etc. when their address will change. Mail services are not responsible for mail that is sent to the student after he/she is no longer a student. Again, all mail will be returned to the sender. The exception to this is when the international student stays in the United Sates, we can forward their mail (for 60-days after graduation) to an address in the United States IF they have notified Mail Services of their US address.
What Cannot be Forwarded
- Mail with an international address
- Newspapers, catalogs, media mail, bulk mail, and presorted standard mail
- Packages from Amazon, UPS, FedEx, DHL
Mail Services will try to contact you for packages that cannot be forwarded, so you can provide a pre-paid shipping label. If contact cannot be made packages will be returned to the sender.
Your Mail After Academic Sessions (Fall and Spring)
Students must pick up all mail and packages before leaving campus at the end of each on-campus session. Any items that have not been picked up within one week of the last on-campus classes will be returned to the sender unless Mail Services is notified by email that the student will be picking them up at another time. All eligible packages and mail will be forwarded to the address on file.
New Address Notification
It is the student’s responsibility to notify senders of their new address within a 60-day period, which commences with their departure from campus. It is also the student’s responsibility to notify the college of any change in address.
Summer Break
- During the summer break your mail and eligible packages/mail will be automatically forwarded to your home address.
- If you remain on-campus during summer break, contact Mail Services to continue picking up your mail and packages at the Friar Station Mailroom.
- If you are moving off campus but will still be picking up your mail and packages throughout the summer in the Friar Station mailroom, you will need to notify Mail Services by email.
Separation from the College (Graduation, LOA, Withdraw)
- Once we receive official notification of separation, eligible mail will be forwarded for 60 days, after which it will be returned to the sender. Non eligible mail will be returned to the sender.
- It is your responsibility to inform all correspondents (banks, magazine, subscriptions, and family) of your new address.
- Mail services are not responsible for mail that is sent to the student after he/she is no longer a student. Again, all mail will be returned to the sender. Packages will be forwarded if eligible, otherwise returned to the sender.
Please contact PC Mail Services pcmail@providence.edu with questions, or to send notification of on/off campus status.
